Sadness/Darkness

”Got nothin’ left. They took my rocket, my airship, my dreams….no dreams left in my life.”

“This is just evil.” Stunned by the sheer cruelty, Tifa turned to Avalanches newest and most intimidating member. “Evil, Vincent. Why are you torturing him like this? You have Heal equipped, just help him!”

“Not yet.” Red eyes were fixed on the pilot who hadn’t moved since their last battle except to curl up with his knees against his chin, rocking gently from side to side where he sat. The Darkness that he’d been hit with was bad; Cid’s eyes were lost and slightly unfocused.

“Can’t get a decent cup of tea anywhere around here for a thousand miles. And they shot down Tiny Bronco, I’ll never fly again.” He sounded almost like a lost child, utterly defeated and depressed and a little frightened.

“He’s a Turk,” Barret grunted at Vincent who just watched Cid breaking down without so much as twitching. “’Course he’d be into this whole torture people thing.”

“This has nothing to do with my pleasure.” Vincent glared at him. “I simply need to know what fears drives the chief, what shadows lies at the very bottom of his soul, ready to spring up and engulf him and threaten me. Us, I mean.”

“Getting’ old to. Worthless old cot, haven’t succeeded with anything in life.”
“How very emo of you,” Yuffie snorted, also distressed by the ex-Turks unwillingness to help the pilot. “I thought you two were friends.”

“An’ all these cigs, they taste like shit, an’ are probably killin’ me slowly. Unless Sephiroth beat them to it, ‘cause there’s no way we could win over someone like that.” Cid buried his face in his hands.

“For Shiva’s sake, just help the man!” Cloud growled. “He’s suffering, Vincent!”

“I need to know.” Vincent said simply.

“Because he’s your friend? Gawds, remind me never to become friends with you!” Cait Sith stared with button eyes.

“No need to fear. Cid is…a special case.”

“I’ve been such a jerk ta Shera, I don’t know…I don’t know how she’d ever forgive me, an’ she saved my life and all…” It sounded like Cid was crying behind his hands now.

Aeris turned around, grabbed her staff and left.

“Where are you going?” Cloud shouted after her.

“To get whacked in the head for long enough to cast Breath of the Earth over that poor man!” She shouted as she stomped away.

Vincent barely shrugged.

“She won’t get back in time. Cid is almost there. Almost looking his very truest fear in the eye.”

Avalanche watched in trembled silence when suddenly Cid tossed his head back and turned his tear streaked face to the sky, shouting from the very bottom of his heart.

“An’ I bet all hot gunmen are straight!”

Six pairs of eyes turned towards Vincent who just blinked. Then he sighed in relief and a faint smile appeared as green Heal surrounded the pilot.

Avalanche stared at the gunman who just shrugged.

“It is nice to know Cid’s fears will never come true,” he mumbled as he walked over to comfort the confused pilot.
